The Yellow Card is a Regional Motor Vehicle Third Party Insurance cover which is administered by the COMESA Yellow Card Scheme. The Scheme was established following the signing of the Protocol on the Establishment of the Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance Scheme by thirteen countries in the COMESA region. The Yellow Card Yellow Card issued in one COMESA Member State is recognised in all other countries participating in the scheme
The COMESA Yellow Card Insurance is recognised and operational in 13 counties, namely, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The Yellow Card provides at least the minimum statutory requirement on Third Party motor vehicle insurance cover to motorists travelling in foreign countries across the region. The insurance offers compensation to Third Party Road traffic accident victims on property damage, bodily injuries / death and medical expenses. The Yellow Card further offers protection against third party legal emanating from property damage, bodily injuries / death and medical expenses incurred by the motorist and or passengers in the event of a road traffic accident in a foreign country that is a member to the scheme.

Claims are handled by the national Bureau for the participating country which the accident has occurred. The concerned National Bureau will deal with all third-party claims against the insured. The insured however has the duty to notify the relevant National Bureau of any incident which may result in claims against the insured.
COMESA Yellow Card insurance policies issued by Solid Risk Advisors Pty Ltd are to be delivered either in digital and/or physical form to policy holders. Delivery of the Yellow Card (digital or physical) occurs only after full payment of the premium by the customer.
The digital version of the yellow card will be sent to the customer on their registered email or WhatsApp number. We aim to deliver the digital Yellow Card within 2 hours of payment confirmation and documentation verification, subject to system availability and compliance checks.
Policy holders may request a physical certificate at the time of application or after digital issuance at our designated branch offices. Both the digital and physical Yellow Card are fully verifiable via COMESA’s verification platforms(USSD or QR scan) as facilitated by COMESA and authorized national bureaux.
The policy holder may request cancellation of their COMESA Yellow Card Insurance at any time before policy commencement date, by submitting a cancellation request to Solid Risk Advisors via email, phone or WhatsApp. Once the policy has commenced, cancellation requests are generally not accepted unless exceptional circumstances apply (e.g., policy issuance error). A cancellation due to lost or damaged policy will attract a R100 fine. Refunds of premium may be considered only if the request is made before the policy’s effective start date and no claim has been submitted related to that policy.
